Experiences over things: How lighting and automation can add to experiences

There has been a shift to people valuing experiences rather than things. We see it all the time at Christmas where parents talk about getting their children experience gifts in lieu of more toys. There seems to be a greater emphasis on travelling, concerts, family day trips, and making memories. Whether you want to go on a vacation or want to have friends over for parties, lighting and home automation are there to enhance these experiences. Here are a few of the ways they can do that.

Peace of mind while away

One great benefit of home automation is that it can keep an eye on your home, property, or business while you are away. And while this can mean cameras, such as interior or exterior security cameras or video doorbells, there are also numerous non-camera devices that can also watch over your home. Smart smoke and C/O alarms, leak detectors, keyless locks, smart thermostats, and a lighting system can all watch over different parts of your property. This means that while you are at work, out to dinner, or away on vacation with your family you can always be assured your home is in good hands.

Entertaining at home

Do you love to entertain? If you enjoy having family and friends over for dinner and parties lighting and automation can play a huge role. We believe in layered lighting. The same level and color of light is not applicable in all instances. You may want to have dim lighting in a theatre, a bright light for cleaning and prep, and accent lighting for parties. Also, EverLights, our year-round holiday lighting, adds flair to any party. Plus, a smart sound system is key for entertaining. Lighting and automation can turn your home into an entertainer’s dream.

Connecting with family

Do you have family that lives far away? Smart devices such as Alexa or Google can help you connect with family and friends who you can’t always see face-to-face. Being able to video call can be a great way to stay in touch. What about the people that live in your household? Smart devices including a keyless lock, where each family member has their own code, allows you to make sure your older kids are home from school. And having a shared family calendar or other automation apps helps you keep track of everyone’s events and schedules so you never forget a sporting event or a friend’s birthday party.

Lighting for relaxation

Home gyms, saunas, and spa-like bathrooms have all increased in popularity. Your home is your sanctuary and,  whether you are looking to do a stay-cation or decompress after a long day, having options for relaxation and health are important. Lighting plays a huge role in setting a relaxing mood. Having a smart lighting system with a keypad pre-programmed with lighting scenes for any activity makes relaxation easy.

Whether you are going on vacation, having a dinner party, or relaxing at home, lighting and home automation can help you enjoy and enhance the moment without worrying about your home.
